Titanium alloy products for medical use

Titanium is non-toxic, light, high strength and excellent biocompatibility, so it is an ideal metal material for medical use as human implants. Ti-6al-4v ELI alloy is still widely used in the medical field. However, vanadium and aluminum ions can be precipitated from the latter, which reduces the cellular adaptability and may cause harm to human body. This problem has long attracted extensive attention in the medical field. The United States began to develop aluminum-free, vanadium-free titanium alloy with biocompatibility as early as the mid-1980s, and used it in orthopedics. Japan, Britain and other countries have also done a lot of research work in this area and made some new progress. Japan, for example, has developed a range of α+β titanium alloys with excellent biocompatibility, Including Ti-15Zr-4Nb_4TA-0.2Pd, Ti-15Zr-4Nb-ATA-0.2Pd-0.20-0.05N, Ti-15Sn-4Nb-2Ta-0.2Pd and Ti-15Sn-4Nb-2Ta-0.2Pd-0.20, ti-15Sn-4Nb-2Ta-0.2Pd and Ti-15Sn-4Nb-2Ta-0.2Pd-0.20. The corrosion strength, fatigue strength and corrosion resistance of these alloys are better than those of Ti-6Al-4V ELI. Compared with α+β titanium alloy, β titanium alloy has higher strength levels, as well as better incision performance and toughness, making it more suitable for implantation as an implant. In the United States, five β titanium alloys have been recommended for medical use, Namely, TMZFTM (Ti-12Mo-^ Zr-2Fe), Ti-13NB-13Zr, Timetal 21SRx (Ti-15Mo-2.5NB-0.2Si), Tiadyne 1610 (Ti-16Nb-9.5Hf) and Ti-15Mo. It is estimated that ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy with high strength, low elastic modulus and excellent formability and corrosion resistance is likely to replace ti-6Al-4V ELI alloy widely used in the medical field in the near future.

Properties of titanium products

Performance analysis of titanium products: good stampability. It can be welded in various forms with good weldability. Machinability is the same as that of industrial pure titanium. Good oxidation resistance.

Working environment: parts that work below 400℃. Suitable for all kinds of plate, stamping and welding parts.

TC2

Performance analysis: at 350℃,100h durable strength in 400MPa or more, hot processing has good plasticity. Heating to 350-400℃, no brittle tendency, therefore, it can be used for welding parts working at high temperature.

Working environment: parts, welding parts, die forging parts and bending parts for work below 500℃.

TC4

Performance analysis: poor stamping, good thermoplastic. Can be welded in various forms, welding joint strength can reach 90% of the base metal strength. Machining performance is good, need to use hard alloy, large cutting capacity, slow speed, full cooling. Good corrosion resistance and thermal stability. It is one of the most widely used titanium alloys.

Working environment: below 400℃ long-term working parts.

TC5

Performance analysis: stable below 350, plasticity decreases at higher temperatures. In the hot state can be forged, stamping deformation.

Working environment: parts working below 350℃.

TC9

Performance analysis: thermoplastic is good. Machinability is the same as T alloy. High corrosion resistance. Good thermal stability.

Working environment: below 400℃ long-term working parts. Compressor discs and blades can be manufactured.

TC10

Performance analysis: poor stamping, good thermoplastic. Can be welded in various forms, welding joint strength can reach 90% of the base metal strength. The machinability is the same as T alloy. Good corrosion resistance. Good thermal stability, remarkable heat treatment effect, good hardenability.

Working environment: do long-term work below 450℃.

TA6

Performance analysis: good welding performance, high creep strength, but low process plasticity, can be deformed under hot state, the alloy under axial load, no sensitivity to the notch, cutting performance is good.

Working environment: parts and welds working below 400℃.

TA7

Performance analysis: poor stamping performance, good thermoplastic. Can be used for various forms of welding, good performance, welding joint strength and plasticity can be equal to the matrix metal. The machinability is the same as that of industrial pure titanium. Good corrosion resistance and thermal stability at high temperature.

Working environment: do long-term work below 500℃ structural parts, can do all kinds of die forging parts.

TA8

Performance analysis: good thermoplastic. It can be welded in various forms with good weldability. Machinability is the same as that of industrial pure titanium. Good oxidation resistance.

Working environment: long-term working parts below 500℃. Engine compressor discs and blades can be manufactured.
