As an excellent structural material, titanium alloy has high specific strength, low density and good corrosion resistance, so it is widely used in aerospace, shipbuilding, automobile and other fields. ZTC4 as a medium strength α+β Type I titanium alloy is a widely used and mature cast titanium alloy, which is suitable for manufacturing static aerospace structural parts with high stress. Precision casting can produce components with precise size and complex shape in batches at low cost. This kind of castings has good overall structure and high reliability, and can solve the problems of difficult forming and high cost of titanium alloy components at the same time. Therefore, it has been an important research direction of titanium alloy casting industry.


Numerical simulation of titanium special-shaped parts processing can quantitatively describe complex problems. Solidification numerical analysis based on actual physical process has gradually become an important means to predict and improve the internal quality of castings. Through numerical simulation and analysis of the temperature field, flow field and defect distribution in the alloy casting process, the limitations of over-reliance on production experience and trial and error in traditional industrial production to improve the casting process, long research and development cycle and high cost can be overcome, and the comprehensive performance of the material can be significantly improved. Therefore, this study first analyzes the structural characteristics of the castings, and then uses ProCAST software to simulate and analyze the vacuum investment casting process of titanium alloy castings, clarify the flow state, solidification characteristics and defect distribution of the alloy liquid during the pouring process, and based on this, iterative optimization is carried out to obtain the Z optimal process parameters. The new process was used for trial production, and Z finally obtained the castings that passed the flaw detection.

(1) ProCAST software was used to simulate the vacuum investment casting of thin-walled parts cast with ZTC4 cast titanium alloy, evaluate the initial casting process, and obtain the defect distribution rule of the structural part and the design criteria of the casting gating system.


(2) The pouring scheme was optimized by means of reverse engineering and finite element analysis, and the Z-optimal casting process was obtained by adding a gate/riser on the original casting process, which solved the problem of shrinkage porosity and shrinkage cavity in the bearing plate area of the casting in the original process. The flaw detection results of the trial parts prepared by the optimized scheme show that the internal quality of the castings is good, there are no air holes and shrinkage defects, and the process stability is high.


(3) The numerical simulation results are highly consistent with the NDT results, providing a reliable basis and analysis method for the development of similar titanium alloy castings and the optimization of pouring process, and laying a foundation for the improvement of the precision casting technology of similar special-shaped thin-walled parts.
